Sorry, Wrong Number
A woman trying to reach her husband by phone accidentally overhears a conversation about a future murder when phone lines get crossed. She strives frantically to prevent it from claiming an innocent victim but no one seems to be able to help her during the urgent time. Sorry, Wrong Number ranks right behind War of the Worlds as one of the most memorable single broadcasts of all time (enough that it was repeated about five times!).
The Shop Around the Corner
Klara and Martin are salespeople who cannot stand to be around each other. Klara outsells Martin, even though he is the tenured and senior salesman, which does not please him. Regardless of the witty putdowns the two exchange, we learn that Martin and Klara are falling in love—via postal mail as each other’s anonymous penpal! This story is based on the 1940s movie starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan. It was later remade in 1998 as You’ve Got Mail, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
